Remember Avocado & Harvest Gold as a fashion statement? Those were good times.
The theme for Fiber Friday (a weekly creative fiber challenge on LiveJournal where I used to have my blog) this week is Kitsch. I chose to express it through the kitschiest era that I have lived in, the 70s.
Who can forget the subtle colors and textures.
This was the inspiration for my yarn.
I made four batts on my trusty drum carder from commercially dyed Merino wool roving. Each batt was split into twelve strips. I spun it into DK weight singles and Navajo-plied it for a nice bulky weight yarn.
But, that yarn isn't nearly garish enough to qualify as kitsch. So true.
Knit it up with short rows and a dose of Sonny Bono's vest via dyed Cotswold locks.
Makes me want to macrame some plant hangers for my spider plants.
A pattern for this scarf is forthcoming and I need a name for it. I suck at naming things.
So, I will have a little naming contest. The winner will get a skein of my handspun yarn from the handspun stash.
