Grrr! I am getting spam comments on my older posts. I really don't want to use comment moderation or ask folks to validation their comments. I am going to start closing old posts to new comments. I am also banning the IP addresses that the spam comes from. I hope that doesn't block any real readers. Email me if it does. If anyone has another suggestion, I'd love to hear it.
Flashback Eyecandy. These are pictures from our trip to Hawaii (Big Island) two summers ago.
Driving down a small road in the SE corner of the island.
This a spot where tree come up to the water's edge. There isn't a beach, just rocks. I love watching the waves come in. I could watch it for hours.
A tree that had the soil washed away from its roots. I am guessing that the beach used to be further out and has eroded to the tree. The waves lap at it now.
I signed up for Secret Stash Exchange. It is a three month (a batt a month) exchange of blended spinning fibers. I am looking forward to this. I love making batts. I don't think I've ever spun someone else's batts before, so it should be very interesting.
The obligatory Questionnaire:
1) When is you birthday?
January 19th a few years back.
2) How long have you been spinning?
2.5 years The first couple of months was on the drop spindle. Once I took a wheel spinning class there was no going back. I lurve my wheel.
3) How long have you been blending your fibers?
2 years I start experimenting right away. My first blends were made with my hands, then hand cards. Now I have my wonderful drum carder.
4) What types of blends do you like to make and spin?
I like to blend all kinds of things. I'll try anything once. For blending I have various wools, mohair, alpaca, llama, camel, silk, silk noil, recycled denim, sari silk waste, hemp, tencel, bamboo, soysilk, and other stuff I can't think of at the moment. I have also played with sparkly additions. I like batts with texture and batts that spin smoothly; also known as almost any batt is wonderful to me. I like fiber adventure. I am playing with sock blends right now.
5) What types of fibers do you NOT like? Are you allergic to any kinds of fiber?
No allergies that I know of. I don't care for ACKrylic.
6) What are your favorite colors?
Yellow and orange top my list. I also love earthy colors like brown, olive, and kahki. And warm, bright or rich colors. Okay, I like all colors unless they are really bright or neon. I'm easy. I will like anything that is made for me. What I'll like best is something that speaks to you rather than something made to meet rigid specifications.
7) What are you least favorite colors?
Neons or really cool colors.
8) What type of yarns do you like to spin? (singles, plied, novelty, fingering, bulky, ect.)
My default spinning gets me a sport to fingering weight as a 2-ply. I usually make 2 or 3-ply yarns, rarely above a worsted weight. I like to play with novelty yarns too.
9) What type of blending equipment do you use?
I have a drum carder. A Patrick Green Deb's Delux. I also have mini combs and hand cards, but I don't use them often.
10) What type of wheel or spindle do you spin on?
A Schacht Matchless double treadle.
11) What do you do with your handspun yarn?
I knit with it, give it away, or toss it in the handspun basket. I like to use handspun as prizes for blog contests. I have also been using some of it for Dulaan knitting.
12) What are your interests outside of spinning?
Knitting, dyeing (mostly natural dyeing), reading, gardening, native plants, cooking, games.
13) What types of music do you like?
I like a lot of music. In no particular order: Bluegrass, World music, R&B, Blues, Rock, Soul, Root Country (not current pop country!), Classical, Punk. Some bands/artists I like are Wilco, Fountains of Wayne, Elliot Smith, They Might Be Giants, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Al Green & Elvis Costello. Did I mention Wilco? I don't like jazz, rap, or top 40 as a general rule.
14) What types of movies do you like?
Documentaries, comedies, old movies (B&W), drama, most anything that isn't horror or heavy on suspense. My favorite movies are Sunset Blvd, Blazing Saddles, & Princess Bride in no particular order.
15) Do you collect anything?
Aside from yarn and fiber? No, my house is too small.
16) What types of candy and snacks do you like and dislike?
I like good chocolate, especially with hazelnuts. I'm not a big candy and snack person.
17) Do you have any food allergies to common "goodies"? (ie: chocolate, nuts, etc.)
Nope.
You're not alone! I've been having that same problem with spam the last couple of days.
Ooo, a Schacht Matchless double treadle! I was thinking of getting that one but that was before I remembered that I couldn't treadle ;-)

Me too with the old comment spam problem. I regularly close older posts to comments and ban the IP address--it doesn't seem to affect legitimate posters.

I like that you'll try anything once. That's the way I feel about spinning (and knitting) too :)

Thanks for the info on your questionaire. It's great finding out other spin/dye/knitter's opinions on product, etc.
