Next weekend, my friend Brooke is teaching a natural dyeing class in Napa. There are one or two slots still open if you want to join us (I am so taking this class!). The class will cover mordanting and dyeing 5 wool tops and tussah silk top (and you get to take some of each home!). Cochineal, madder, osage orange, and real indigo are a few of the dyes you'll use. It is magic to watch indigo dipped fibers turn blue. I am really looking forward to this class.
Brooke is a great teacher. She has a lot of experience with teaching and with natural dyeing. Her love of fiber and natural dyeing has become her business, Sincere Sheep, offering naturally dyed yarn and roving from sustainably grown sheep. There is lots of eye candy in her blog's Spinning & Natural Dye gallery.
The picture above is a color wheel of yarns she naturally dyed. Natural dyes can make a wide variety of colors and can be very bright and rich.
When: Saturday May 19th & Sunday May 20th
Time: 9 am to 5 pm
Where: city of Napa, California
Each student will leave the class with over a pound of yarn and fiber.
If you want more info, email me at: miss_maia@ hotmail.com (removing the space after @). I will forward the class flyer.
Wow! I was just wishing for a local source of wool, and suddenly here is one. I'm trying to "buy local" with my groceries, why not my yarn, too?
