You have spoken. Surf is the indisputable winner of the poll with 40% of the votes as I write this. I decided it would be rude of me to ask your opinion and then "do whatever I want". And, if I am extending this to you, my dear readers, maybe I need to rethink how I treat Roger's opinions. Food for thought.
I present Surf, the yarn. I'm pretty fast huh? To tell the truth, I had this skein already spun. I didn't mention it in the poll because I thought it might skew the results.
The skein represents about half of the almost 8 oz I have of this colorway. I have spun up almost half of the remaining roving. The trick is to make sure the singles are the right weight to match the existing skein. Again, tricks I learned from Celia Quinn are really helping me out. (Am I sounding like a broken record?)
The colors in the close-up are pretty accurate. It should make socks with subtle stripes. The skein is about 275 yards of sport weight yarn. With the other half, I'll have oodles for a pair of socks.
One of my tricks when splitting roving is to tie a loose knot at the start (sorry, the colors are off in this picture). This way I can put down the roving at any point and always know which end to pick up. It wouldn't matter with this particular roving, but it is my habit and I do it every time so I won't forget when it does matter. For a roving with a pattern, it really helps. I did this for my BFL socks. That roving had a fairly strong pattern and I wanted to preserve it in order.
I don't know how I missed this poll, but I did. I agree with the final call, though. Very pretty!

No matter what the pole said, you really couldn't lose! They are all equally beautiful.
I really wish that we could package up Celia Quinn and spread her around like fairy dust. I could use a few (hundred) tips like the ones that you have picked up from her.

I know exactly what you mean about Celia Quinn: she was my first *real* teacher! Well, there was that woman in Massachusetts, but we won't go there. Have you taken a class with Judith MacKenzie McCuin? Similar experience!

I missed the poll too! Lovely green springy yarn. That's what our grass would look like if the darned snow would ever leave!

That is a great trick and one I will definitely copy! Maybe you should make knee highs with your "oodles" of yarn! :o)

Where do you live? I need to get my little tale over there so you can teach me to spin like that.

You've truly brought out all the magic that was in that roving. Great job. Can't wait to see the socks.
