I got a copy of Latvian Mittens! It is the 1981 softcover edition. I understand the newer version has more pictures and charts. But I have a copy! I haven't decided on my mitten yet. I'll probably cobble together my own version. I love the explanation of the pattern stitches, so I'll try to make something that has a coherent meaning.
Here is half of the steel blue roving from A Piece of Vermont spun up (please pardon the blurry cam technology). I need to do some of the natural before I start knitting. I may make a little batt of a dark gray (tweedy charcoal) or a red or a ??? to be a third color for a bit of contrast. Probably charcoal.
I just ordered the first portion of the Master Knitter Program from The Knitters Guild of America (TKGA). Brooke is going to do it with me. Anybody else interested in working along with us? It should be fun and interesting. Now I need to decide what yarn to make the swatches with. Something reasonably priced, plied, and very plain.
For La's contest, l'il critter feeters (I think I am too late to be in the contest. :( ). Sammie is mostly black with just a bit of a white bib and belly. He also has a squiggle on the back of his neck. Maybe he is a Harry Potter fan? Anywho, his feet are all black with just one white toe on each paw. So cute! They would be even cuter if he could learn to wipe the mud off before entering the house. Furniture is not the place to wipe one's feet. He has repeatedly ignored all my memos on the subject.
Tomorrow, I will tell you about the fabulous weekend I had spinning with Celia Quinn.
Love the paws!

What has motivated you to do the TKGA Masters? I must admit I'm curious about it and have considered it before.

I've been trying to order Latvian Mittens from the big book retailers for months... I think I'll hit the Schoolhouse Press site and request it there. I have a feeling I'll need the extra charts and pictures.

Oh, not another one... I've been watching Marlene at Woven Flame work through her Master Knitter Program -- she posts about it on Mondays, if you're curious. I can feel my resistance weakening...
