It is overcast and drab here today. So, I am showing you some pictures from our trip to Hawaii last summer. My brother lives on the Big Island (Hawaii). He and his lovely bride got married there. We decided to take a week and see as much of the island as we could.
Click on the pictures to see them larger.
This is looking down into the Waipio Valley at the black sand beach there. The road is perilously steep.
The sign says that only 4-wheel drive vehicles are allowed. The yellow sign indicates that the road has a 25% slope! Even with 4-wheel drive it can be tricky to get back up.
This is from a hike up one of the ridges that overlooks the Waipio Valley. Waipio is at the north-east corner of the Big Island. It is the wet side of the island and very lush. There aren't a lot of beaches in this area. Summer is the rainy season; just the opposite of the Bay Area.
On our last day we went down to the Puna area (south-east corner). There are lots of beaches, but it is still very lush. I wish we had had more time to explore and swim here. I discovered snorkeling in our last fews hours.
Finally, an orchid growing in the garden at the family house.
I love that picture of the waves crashing on the rocks! What a beautiful place; thanks for sharing.
