Whoreshoes!
We went to see the Whoreshoes last night. It was the CD release party at Amnesia for their second album, Get Lucky.
Camilla on washboard (also keyboards and ukulele), Joni on fiddle (also mandolin and guitar), Diana on bass, Emily on guitar (also mandolin).
Lala (best name ever?) on banjo (also lap steel) I love how this photo makes her look like she's smokin' hot.
The pictures are blurry but an accurate depiction of how the audience saw them. (Not really, but you gotta admit it was a good line.)
If you aren't familiar with them, they are an all-girl root country band. A little irreverent, decidedly wacky, and fond of the cautionary tale. And whiskey, did I mention whiskey? Six of the songs on the new CD feature whiskey. No wonder Roger likes them so well.
I probably haven't mentioned this before, but Roger is a Bourbon (with a capital B) connoisseur. A few years back he discovered bourbon and has been collecting and sipping since then. We aren't talking boozing here; it is more like sampling fine wine. There are forums for these folks and festivals and gatherings to taste and discuss.
Here is what Roger had to say about them. Scroll down to the posts from Rughi.
Anyway, a good time was had despite the stifling heat and the absolute lack of any kind of a fan in the joint. Stop by their site or go to their CD Baby site to listen to some of the tunes and buy a CD. You won't regret it.

I walked right by this show on Saturday night, and we actually tried to get in the bar by telling them we were photographing Litquake events--but the door guy wouldn't let us in without paying the cover...
